Tips on how to prevent and cure chapped lips

how to sure chapped lips

What causes chapped lips?

Our lips have no oil glands and exposure to the elements at all times inevitably leads to dry peeling skin and chapped rough lips. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to keep your lips in tip top condition.

Do use a lip balm and listen to your lips. Check the ingredients carefully as some elements such as camphor, eucalyptus phenol menthol, salicylic acid, alcohol etc, can worsen dry and irritated lips. Only switch to a petroleum based product if you are allergic to plant based oils and extracts like beeswax, shea butter, castor, soya bean oil, etc.

Don’t exfoliate your lips ever, instead apply lip balm or suitable ointment.

Do not bite or peel flaky skin on your lips as this will only cause more irritation and slow down the healing process.

The use of lip balm is not just restricted to use by the fairer sex. Even men benefit from using it and should not be afraid to try it.
